After all that talk about work, it’s nice to see the Nine of Pentacles (shown here from the Fyodor Pavlov Tarot) today. The Nine of Pentacles is about the good life, in the material sense and also in the sense of virtue. This card suggests that there will be plenty of whatever’s needed to go around, and at least a little extra left over. It also suggests that that entails a certain kind of obligation.
This is definitely not an obligation to feel ashamed about the good in our lives and give it up. Instead, it’s about the idea that unfortunately, access to even the basics is hardly guaranteed. When you’re comfortable that’s an opportunity to make the most of, which might mean anything from deep healing to creative work to spiritual practice to, sure, helping others in more direct ways – as long as you’re also setting aside the time and resources you need for self-care and enjoyment. When we have an opportunity to really fill our own cups like this, a natural sense of positivity tends to arise and radiate outwards.
The specifics may vary, of course. But at least we’re all experiencing, to use the Buddhist phrase, this precious human life, and that alone is something to celebrate and make the most of. The Nine of Pentacles, however, suggests that we may have the resources this year to do a bit more than the minimum.
